Sendible’s Social Media Expert of the Month: Kim Garst
Kim Garst never imagined that she would be an entrepreneur and co-founder of a social media company when she began her career years ago. She often states, “I did not choose social media, social media chose me”. When she started her professional career, she was employed by a top law firm as a paralegal. Kim’s intentions were to go to law school after she earned a BS in Political Science. However, after the birth of her first son, Tyler, Kim’s whole world changed. She decided to leave her job and be a stay at home mother.
Soon thereafter Kim and her husband realized that raising a child solely on a single income was not working for their family. With this realization came a desire to learn how to make extra money while meeting the needs of her family. Kim was introduced to what many at the time believed as a novel concept at the time… producing an income by using the Internet. However, there was a major problem; Kim knew very little about the Internet, and knew less about how to use the Internet to make money.
With drive and intensity, Kim began teaching herself how to harness and use the power of the information super highway. In no time, she became known as an expert on the topic. Quickly, people were turning to her for advice, and from that, a business spawned. Kim became committed to the success of her clients. What was once a business to generate a bit of extra money had become a successful 18-hour a day job. Eventually, she sold her successful businesses in order to spend more time with her children and tried again to be a stay-at-home mom.
Soon after selling her business, one of Kim’s friends called asking Kim to become part of their direct sales company. She was instantly hooked on building relationships using the Internet. When social media emerged as the ultimate relationship-building tool, Kim immediately jumped in. Kim started Social Media Branding with Kim Garst in 2010, and in 2012 she partnered with Terry Williamson to co-founded Boom! Social, where she is the primary business coach, speaks and trains on a wide variety of social media topics and serves corporate clients who wish to grow their businesses in today’s social world.
Kim and her team at Boom! Social have grown her blog, www.kimgarst.com into one of the leading authorities on social media for small businesses. Kim’s blog reaches over 32,000 subscribers. She has been named #24 on Forbes 2012 list of Top 50 Social Media Influencers, #7 on Kred’s list of Top 50 Social Media Bloggers, and has received many other accolades for her work. She is an acclaimed author of multiple guides about growing businesses. Kim’s is also the author of The Quick and Easy Guide to Branding Your Business and Creating Massive Sales With Pinterest. She is also a reputable and engaging public speaker, and hosts an annual conference called Social Boom!
